Slide entry rules updated for 2012

Starting in February 2012, slide participants may submit only one slide in each of the slide categories.

For the past few years, GSACC has been allowing participants to submit two entries in each category. That rule was implemented because we had a shortage of slides and needed them for Gulf States.

A couple of years ago, Gulf States stopped accepting slides. While slides could still be scanned and converted to digital images for use in Gulf States, the need for extra slides no longer existed.

Since there is no longer a need for extra slides, our rules have finally been updated. This change is unrelated to our club’s decision to stop participating in Gulf States. Our rules simply were not updated in a timely manner.

I understand that some members thought that GSACC might stop accepting slides after Gulf States stopped accepting them. GSACC has not considered discontinuing slides, and there are no plans to consider that. We will not abandon photography formats that interest our members.

Winning pictorial, nature and photojournalism slides are still being retained for the year-end competition. Since there is no year-end competition for the assignment category, winning slides in that category are not being retained.

    Dues are due in January

Just a reminder: Your annual GSACC dues are due in January. Dues for 2012 will remain the same as 2011:

    Individual: $30.00/year
    Couples/family: $40.00/year
    Student/non-traditional: $15.00/year
Junior (high school and below): $6.00/year

Dues are half of the above when joining in July or later. Please don’t wait until July to join! A dues deadline will be set (likely the last February meeting or the first March meeting).

Dues must be paid by the deadline to be included in the 2012 GSACC yearbook. Paying dues also guarantees that you will receive a copy of the yearbook.

Also, remember that you must be a member in good standing in order to submit entries in GSACC competitions. Anyone who hasn’t paid dues by the deadline will not be eligible to enter competitions. Those who aren’t in good standing may still attend meetings and participate in other GSACC activities.

Finally, a couple of years ago we had a portrait session and created ID cards for GSACC members. The club has added quite a few new members since that session. After the 2012 dues deadline, we will schedule another portrait session and create ID cards for the newer members.
