    Free Software Options Offered

    MSNBC.com recently listed 20 free programs that are available online for photographers to download and use. The programs are:

    GIMP (photo editing)
    Photo Pos Pro (photo editing)
    Picasa 3 (photo editing, management and sharing)
    XnView (photo editing and converts file formats)
    FastStone Image Viewer (photo viewing and editing, slide show
    creation, convert images to other formats)
    PhotoScape (photo editing, slide show creation, combine multiple
    photos, convert RAW images)
    Pictomio (organize photos, create slide shows)
    Image Resizer Powertoy Clone for Windows (resize one photo
    or a group of photos)
    36-Image Converter (covert photos into other file formats,
    photo editing)
    VisiPics (sort photos and get rid of duplicates)

    Each of these programs has different capabilities. Some have more photo-editing options, while others have better tools for organizing photos, resizing photos and creating slide shows. Some of these programs may not work with Vista or Windows 7.

    Florczak wins HM in Gulf States

    GSACC member Peter Florczak’s image, “Waiting” won a 1st HM in the Gulf States Pictorial B&W contest in February.

    GSACC’s other entries did not place. Other scores are listed below, alphabetically by the maker’s last name:

    Well Pulley, by Tim Kirkland, 9 points
    With This Ring, by Steve Richter, 10 points
    The Alamo of Yesteryear, by Denise Willems, 7 points

    Winning scores ranged from 13-11 points. None of GSACC’s Pictorial entries placed.

    Those entries were:
    Karogram #19, by Stan Andrews,10 points
    Woodpecker Dining Out, by Gerald Jendrusch, 10 points
    El Mercado, by John Rudolph, 9 points
    Romantic Night, by Denise Willems, 10 points
    All winners in this competition had 12 points.

    Both of these competitions were judged by the Slidell Camera Club.
