John Rudolph places first in Gulf States competition

Melk Abbey Spiral Staircase by John Rudolph

Congratulations to GSACC’s John Rudolph! John placed first in the January Gulf States Projected Digital competition with his image, “Melk Abbey Spiral Staircase” (above). John’s image scored 12 points.

Other winners in this contest were:

2nd place: Blue Doors, by John Breaux, Houston CC, 12 points
3rd place: Confined Emotions, by William Baker, Plano PC, 12 points
1st HM: Peace, by Carmen Mowrer, Lockheed Martin CC, 12 points
2nd HM: Swallowtail Butterfly, by Norman Balliviero, Lafayette PS, 12 points

John submitted his winning image in 2009’s “stairs” assignment competition. Gulf States does not have an assignment category. However, images that place in GSACC’s assignment category may be entered in other categories in Gulf States. January’s Projected Digital competition was scored by the Lions Field Camera Club. Scores for other GSACC images in this competition are listed below. Entries are listed alphabetically by the maker’s last name:

AZ Sunset 4, by Stan Andrews, 10 points
Floating on the Mosel River, by Jenny Fowler, 9 points
Paint with Light, by Denise Willems, 6 points

GSACC mailed images for the January PJ Projected Image competition. However, images that were submitted will not be scored.

Gulf States Competition VP Tom Savage explained via email that there was a problem with this particular competition. The problem was that the e-mail address given for sending images was incorrect. When clubs e-mailed entries, no error message was received. Because of that, many entries were never received by the judging club.

The GSCCC Board decided to void the January PJ Projected Image competition. Images that were submitted for this competition may be used in the next PJ Projected Digital competition in March.

    GSCCC convention coming soon

This year’s Gulf States Camera Club Council convention will take place from April 8-10 in Corpus Christi. The official convention hotel is the Holiday Inn Airport, 5549 Leopard, Corpus Christi, TX. The phone number is (361) 289-5100.

Rooms for the convention are reportedly going fast. The most recent update that I received stated that Barbara Jendrusch called the Holiday Inn and was told there are 22 rooms left for the GSCCC convention at the reduced price. If you call to reserve a room, be sure to mention that it is for the GSCCC convention. The rate is $69 a night. If no rooms are available at the Holiday Inn, or if this price is too high for you, don’t panic. While the Holiday Inn is the official convention hotel, staying there is not a requirement to attend. There are many other hotels and motels in the Corpus Christi area. For example, I did an online search and found that rooms at Motel 6 and La Quinta Inn are closer to $40 a night.

At this time, a schedule of events planned for the convention is unavailable. When a schedule is released, that information will be shared.
